Requirements and Restrictions
F1 visa holders in the U.S. have several key rights. They can enroll in full-time academic programs at accredited institutions, work on-campus for up to 20 hours per week during the academic year, and full-time during breaks. They are also eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows up to 12 months of work in their field after graduation. For those in STEM programs, the OPT can be extended by an additional 24 months. F1 students also have access to educational resources and can travel in and out of the U.S. with valid visa and documentation.
However, F1 visa holders must follow certain restrictions. They are required to maintain full-time student status and cannot work off-campus without authorization, except in specific cases like OPT. Unauthorized work can lead to visa violations. Additionally, any changes in academic status, personal information, or travel plans must be reported to the school’s designated official, and F1 status is only valid as long as students remain enrolled and comply with visa regulations.
F1 VISA TRANSFER
